Ah… Palm Springs… California’s desert escape.
I had never been to Palm Springs before, but had heard a lot about it. So on a recent trip to LA, I decided to extend my trip and check out this playground for Hollywood’s stars!
I had such an incredible time during my three-day stay and am ready to go back right away. The full report will be posted in the coming weeks, but here’s a suggested itinerary should you ever find yourself headed that way (and it’s worth the drive out there).
Day 1
• Arrive in town in the late morning and visit the Palm Springs Visitor’s Center first. You can’t miss it as you drive into town, it’s directly in front of you. Here you’ll find local experts who can help plan your visit, give you a few maps and a quick city orientation. As an alternative, you can also download their really, robust app.
• Grab lunch at Sherman’s Deli.
• While the sun is at it’s peak, check into your hotel and enjoy the pool. It’s hot in the desert. May I recommend the Saguaro?*
• At night, take a Desert Adventures Jeep Tour. You’ll appreciate the primer on desert life before you explore the region.
• Enjoy dinner at Thai Smile Palm Springs (they had the best Mongolian Beef).
Day 2
• Wake up early for a Big Wheel Tours* bike tour. It’s just you, your bike and the open road.
• After a full day of biking, you’ll probably want to relax at the pool today. Enjoy a refreshing dip. You deserve it.
• Spend the evening shopping downtown and dinner at Las Casuelas Terraza. Have a margarita. May I suggest one of the Pomegranate variety?
Day 3
• Nearby Indian Canyons has several hiking trails. Start early to avoid hiking in the middle of the afternoon sun. Discount tickets are available at the Palm Springs Visitor Center.
• There’s plenty of eateries downtown for lunch, so pick your favorite.
• Take your photo with Marilyn. It’s usually less busy during the day than at night.
• As the sun sets, take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for an evening hike.
Day 4
• With plenty of water packed with you, depart early for an all-day adventure around Joshua Tree National Park.
• Have a delicious dinner at Lulu California Bistro.
• Operating seasonally, check the calendar for the famous Palm Springs Follies – a popular revue show featuring Palm Spring’s finest seniors! From the architecture to the desert, adventure and downtown’s eateries, Palm Springs will not disappoint.
