Food

Supper Clubs are have recently become the latest craze in London and the fad is set to be become even bigger.

Staying in is now the new going out, with supper clubs popping up in secret locations all over the city. The idea is simple, instead of going to a restaurant; you go to eat at someone’s house instead. It’s a like a dinner party except you have don’t know anyone and you have to pay for your meal.

So, here are my picks for the best supper clubs in London.

1. The Saltoun Supper Club

You’ll immediately forget where you are when you step into this quirky Brixton flat, with creaking stripped floorboards, unusual knick-knacks and artwork covering the walls, trinket boxes and tea lights scattered over the tables. Owner, eccentric Arno Massdorp who is also a food stylist and photographer will cook you up a storm, with elegant dishes such as gnocchi with cauliflower and truffle oil, and roasted duck with pomegranate and star anise giant couscous.

2. Disappearing Dining Club

The thing about the Disappearing Dining Club is that it can pop up almost anywhere in the city. Dinner parties have been held in empty warehouses, hidden basements, secret galleries and private gardens. Owner, Stuart Langley cooks up anything from six course taster menus to brunches and Sunday lunches and even organises pop up dinner dances and a cinema club.

3. Leluu Supper Club

Vietnamese born Uyen Luu has been a clothing and jewellery designer, a writer, photographer and blogger and now she hosts her own supper clubs in her London Fields home. She serves Vietnamese inspired cuisine such as beef pho, dill fish cakes and miso aubergine in eight course menus and also holds Vietnamese cooking classes. She has even taught famous TV chef, Jamie Oliver!

4. The Loft Project

Originally set up as a temporary supper club, The Loft Project is the brainchild of chef Nuno Mendes and his partner Clarise Faria, and is now a place where chefs from top kitchens all over the world can come to share their talents and host dinners set around one communal table. Menus change frequently and up to 12 courses are served, matched with fine wines, elegant cocktails and posh nibbles.

5. The Secret Larder

Yorkshire man and food writer James Ramsden runs the Secret Larder with his painter sister in their North London flat. This popular supper club is both homely and cosy and dinners are themed depending on the time of year. Foodie inspiration comes from his mentor, ‘Grannie’.

If you have any top rated supper clubs I’ve missed let me know in the comments section below.
