I don’t know about you, but I am a HUGE fan of breakfast and an even bigger fan of brunch. There’s just something about a big delicious first meal of the day that really puts me in a good mood, or maybe it’s the mimosas.
Either way I am pleased to announce that the ever delicious brunch is becoming increasingly more popular in Barcelona.
While some places only offer their special brunch menu on the weekends, others offer their menu all week and even have “menu of the day” options. It’s so good you’ll be hooked after the first bite.
To give you a better idea of where to go, here are my top 5 brunch picks.
1. Brunch and Cake – Carrer Enric Granados, 19
The first place to offer brunch in Barcelona. This is my all time favorite place to get brunch any day of the week. The food is delicious and the service is very fast. The featured picture of this post is their famous eggs benedict but with a twist, instead of an english muffin it comes on a waffle and let me tell you it never disappoints. It’s a very popular spot, especially on the weekends so be prepared to wait (it’s worth it).
2. Marmalade – Carrer de la Riera Alta, 4-6
Even though this restaurant only serves brunch on the weekends, it’s one of the few places i’ve found that offers a “menu of the day” with their brunch menu. That means you can get brunch, desert and a drink for 9 euros and trust me, it’s worth much more than that. The decor of this place is incredibly unique with a touch of “at home comfort.” My favorite thing to eat here is the “Milk’s Fry Up” or what I like to call, “The Hangover Cure.” It’s a massive american style breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, mushrooms, beans and to top it all off bread with homemade jam. Is your mouth watering yet? I know mine is.
3. Caravelle – Carrer del Pintor Fortuny, 31
Another restaurant that only offers brunch on the weekends. Even though the brunch menu has a limited selection each one is delicately crafted into deliciousness. The menu has very unique ingredients to put a fun and creative flare on the first meal of the day. Located in El Raval this quaint little restaurant is very bright and open with a minimalistic “picnic in the park” decor. The best part, even if you don’t go for brunch the regular menu is just as good, or even better, and features an array of gourmet taco dishes.
4. Pudding – Carrer de Pau Claris, 90
The decoration in this place takes you out of this world. Literally. This “Alice in Wonderland” themed cafe has it all from delicious treats to giant mushroom lamps. The detail put into creating the very playful down the rabbit whole atmosphere is superb! You’ll come for the decor and stay for the delicious food. The menu has a unique selection of ingredients with some traditional breakfast items but everything has a little twist. It’s a great place to grab a light breakfast or a piece of cake and coffee to get your sweet fix with the mad hatter.
5. Alsur Cafe – Carrer de Roger de Llúria, 23
An all day, everyday restaurant that truly embraces the idea that brunch calls for an early morning drink. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing with an array of different areas to sit from round tables, to booths and even a sectional that creates a very at home feel. The menu gets right to the point and has a wide range of selections that dip in and out of breakfast and lunch selections to please any type of bruncher. The decor is simple yet tasteful with a Guadi influence that can put any local or traveler at ease. What more could you possibly need?
